Suzanne Collins on “The Hunger Games” Film

Suzanne Collins wrote a message on the official facebook account for the books after seeing the finished (!) version of the movie.

Dear Readers,
I’ve just had the opportunity to see the finished film of The Hunger Games. I’m really happy with how it turned out. I feel like the book and the film are individual yet complementary pieces that enhance one another. The film opens up the world beyond Katniss’ point of view, allowing the audience access to the happenings of places like the Hunger Games control room and President Snow’s rose garden, thereby adding a new dimension to the story.

Director Gary Ross has created an adaptation that is faithful in both narrative and theme, but he’s also brought a rich and powerful vision of Panem, its brutality and excesses, to the film as well. His world building’s fantastic, whether it be the Seam or the Capitol. It’s amazing to see things that are suggested in the book fully developed and so brilliantly realized through the artistry of the designers.

And, my God, the actors. The cast, led by the extraordinary Jennifer Lawrence, is absolutely wonderful across the board. It’s such a pleasure to see how they’ve embodied the characters and brought them to life.

So I’d like to sincerely thank all the many people who devoted their time and talents to the film, especially producers Nina Jacobson and Jon Kilik, and the excellent teams at Color Force, Larger Than Life, and Lionsgate.

I hope you enjoy the film!

Glamour (US) Photoshoot + Sneak Peak Interview

February 29, 2012
Written by Mikaela in Articles, Gallery, The Hunger Games || No Comments

As we said earlier Jennifer Lawrence were on the cover for both Glamour US and UK. I have added amazing outtakes of Jen from the Glamour US photoshoot to the gallery, enjoy. You can also read a sneak peak of the interview from the magazine!

The Kentucky-born Lawrence, who was nominated for an Academy Award last year for her gritty work in Winter’s Bone, knows that her life is about to change. Big-time. The Hunger Games is being heralded as the next Twilight, with all of the box office expectations that entails. But instead of vampires, this story has a fight-to-the-death reality show, political conspiracies and the brutal deaths of small children. In other words, Lawrence isn’t just playing the next Bella Swan; she’s also playing the next Jason Bourne.

In the weeks leading up to the release of the film, Lawrence, who laughs often and quickly—at herself as much as everything else—has intentionally been taking it easy, hanging out with her friends, surfing, going grocery shopping and mentally preparing for what’s to come. May the odds be ever in her favor.

GLAMOUR: So, are you ready?
JENNIFER LAWRENCE: I feel like I’m in the eye of the hurricane right now. I just recently started cleaning like I’m insane, and I’m starting to think it’s my anxiety over the movie. I think it’s a bit like, “I’m just cleaning the refrigerator handle. The movie’s not coming out. I’m going to clean it spotless, and then my life will not change.” It’s just scary. I feel like I got a ticket to go to another planet and I’m moving there and there’s no turning back, and I don’t know if I’m going to like that other planet or have friends there. It’s daunting.

Jennifer Lawrence is on the cover of the US and UK version of Glamour magazine, the april issues. She looks so fantastic on both of the covers! We have added some medium quality scans to the gallery, once we get some better quality scans they will be replaced, but this is better than nothing! Enjoy!

On losing weight while filming The Hunger Games: “Because I did so much training – running, archery, and Pilates – over the course of two months, it all happened pretty naturally. You can’t diet when you’re filming a movie like The Hunger Games, running in 100 degree weather and doing all those stunts, so I was eating a ton. Anyway, Katniss is meant to be a hunter; she’s meant to be scary. Kate Moss running at you with a bow and arrow isn’t scary.”

On Hollywood: “Everyone always has to play this whole, ‘Oh my God, I don’t want to be in the spotlight’ game. They think that the way to win people’s hearts is to complain about fame, when actually there are so many great sides to it. I’m an actor and I love my job. I can take months off, and I get a lot of money – way more money than any 21-year-old should have – so what is there to complain about?”

On why British men are attractive (she’s dating her X-Men co-star Nicholas Hoult): “Well, they have these wonderful manners, and everything they say is funnier, just because of the accent. I like the way that accent changes, too. There’s the cute, ‘I’m trying to be adorable because I know that you’re mad at me’ accent – and then the drunk accent where all the consonants have vanished.”

Once again Jennifer is gracing the Vanity Fair annual Hollywood issue, she is in the front panel along with Rooney Mara, Mia Wasikowska and Jessica Chastain, also featured on the cover is Elizabeth Olsen, Adepero Oduye, Shailene Woodley, Paula Patton, Felicity Jones, Lily Collins, and Brit Marling.

Go to the gallery to take alook at the wonderful Vanity Fair March cover and below you can watch an interview with Jen and some highlight from the photoshoot of the cover, enjoy!

In the first-ever Hollywood Issue cover shoot from Vanity Fair contributing photographer Mario Testino, a bevy of Hollywood’s most precocious beauties lounge across a three-panel foldout—including two new Oscar nominees. The Art Deco set was designed to evoke the all-white, Jazz Age interiors of English decorator Syrie Maugham, whose clients included Bunny Mellon, Elsa Schiaparelli, and the Duchess of Windsor; V.F.’s fashion and style director, Jessica Diehl, put the 11 cover starlets in pastel satin dresses and frothy feathers to lend a 20s and 30s boudoir feel. Across the panels are actresses Rooney Mara, Mia Wasikowska, Jennifer Lawrence, Jessica Chastain, Elizabeth Olsen, Adepero Oduye, Shailene Woodley, Paula Patton, Felicity Jones, Lily Collins, and Brit Marling. Mara and Chastain—both featured on the front panel—were nominated for Academy Awards in January, Mara for her portrayal of cyberpunk hacker Lisbeth Salander in David Fincher’s Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and Chastain for her supporting role in Tate Taylor’s Oscar heavyweight, The Help. (The Julliard grad also had starring roles in Take Shelter, The Tree of Life, and Coriolanus in 2011.)
