Exciting news, Nextmovie is reporting that the first footage of “The Hunger Games” will be shown at the MTV Video Music Awards this Sunday. Jennifer will introduce the footage so we assume she will attend the event.
Over the last quarter century, MTV’s Video Music Awards have provided the world with some of its most famous pop culture moments, from Britney’s “comeback” performance to Kanye West crashing the stage during Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech.
This year, you can add “The Hunger Games” to that list of milestones. NextMovie can exclusively confirm that this year’s VMAs will feature the world premiere of the first ever footage from the most anticipated film event of 2012, introduced by star Jennifer Lawrence herself.
Looks like this year, the odds are definitely in your favor.
For those still wondering what the big deal is, here’s a quick rundown: Based on the wildly popular series of young adult novels by Suzanne Collins, “The Hunger Games” stars Academy Award nominee Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen, a girl who is chosen to participate in a government-sponsored televised deathmatch against other randomly chosen teenage opponents.
And now the whole world will get a chance to see exactly what all the hype is about, thanks to MTV. Tune in to the VMAs when it airs live this Sunday at 9 p.m. EST — and get your first look at the movie world’s next big thing.
“The Hunger Games” doesn’t arrive in theaters until March 23, but the real countdown begins Sunday. See you there.
MTV.com had an interview with T-Bone Burnett, the composer of “The Hunger Games” Soundtrack and he confirmed Jennifer will sing.
We’ve seen snippets of the cinematic world of Panem — Jennifer Lawrence as blood-spattered, arrow-wielding Katniss crouching in the woods, Josh Hutcherson as her battle-worn fellow combatant Peeta lying in a clearing. What we haven’t yet checked out from “Hunger Games” — and why would we, with no trailer yet released and the film not hitting theaters until March 2012? — is anything to do with the score, an all-star collaboration between T-Bone Burnett and Danny Elfman.
But that musical omission will be changing soon, as Burnett not only told MTV News that filmmakers will be releasing “Hunger Games” tuneage soon, but that one track will feature Lawrence herself.
“Yeah, we did,” Burnett said when we asked if Lawrence had recorded anything in the studio. “And it was beautiful. She did great. She’s singing great. Killer actor too.” (more…)
Today (August 15) is Jennifer’s 21st birthday and we would like to wish her a happy birthday! We hope she will have a wonderful day with her family and friends.
Ain’t It Cool News recently talked to “Like Crazy” director Drake Doremus about the movie. He also talked about Jennifer and her character.
Capone: And I see Jennifer Lawrence is in the film, which threw me for a second, because I’d just seen her and Anton in THE BEAVER. Does her character respresent the real world crashing in on this long-distance relationship?
DD: She is. In a way, she’s kind of a perfect girlfriend for him and kind of the perfect person and she embodies what we think he would want or what we think he’d be with, but in reality there are X factors that you can’t replace in a person. And she’s sort of the perfect girlfriend in a way, but there’s something about it that doesn’t give you everything you need, you know?
Capone: How soon after you saw her in WINTER’S BONE did you want her in your movie or did Anton recommend her?
DD: Right away! She was the perfect actress for this style of filmmaking, because she’s so committed to the moment and so grounded, and she is always doing what’s necessary–nothing more and nothing less, which is exactly what I like in a performance. She’s just magnificent, and I was very fortunate to be able to have her in the film. Source

As far as why there is such a long lag time between the two releases, the statement from Lionsgate Chief Operating Officer Joe Drake only notes that “the period around the Thanksgiving weekend is such an opportunity for families and friends to make an event of going to the movies.”
